Girl’s Basketball: A Peek in on the Season

Do you want to improve your techniques with basketball? You can find the solution to your problem with Jana Hughes, a PLTW teacher and basketball coach here at West Jessamine Middle School.

Hughes has been improving her coaching techniques for 12 years, and is now one of the most talented basketball coaches you will ever meet. “I love my job because I get to improve my learning from the girls on the team, and the girls get to learn from me,” Hughes said

The coach’s season ended strong with the 6th grade team winning the Salt River Conference Championship. Hughes initially started coaching because she wanted to have a positive impact on the girls, as well as to help them become better individuals.

Hughes loves to see the girls grow and learn. She is especially going to miss the eighth-grade grade team, because they were the first team that she coached at West since they were in sixth-grade grade. But she is also excited to meet the new sixth-graders because their future is bright. Zoey Spencer, one of the players on the basketball team, really enjoys participating in the sport, and she says that she really like Hughes as a coach, because Hughes keeps them on the “Go, go go!”

This basketball season has been a success all around for girls at all grade levels, and Coach Hughes has led the way.
